CHASSIS ASSEMBLY TIPS The C&N Reproductions, Pedal Car Chassis Kit is very easy to build and goes together quickly. Most of the chassis kit is pre-assembled and designed to assemble quickly needing just the Pedal Pushrod Hanger, Steering Assembly and Wheels installed. To help make assembly even easier and to see what the kit consisits of, we have provided detailed photos of these assemblies along with a couple of building tips This chassis kit is designed for use with C&N Reproductions, Wooden Body Kit for pedal cars, you can also design and build your own custom pedal car body is if you so desire. Important: Study the included assembly drawing closely before and while building the pedal car chassis kit. General assembly: To begin the pedal pushrod hanger assembly is attached to the chassis and the pedal pushrods to the hanger. Next before installing the steering mechanism, a pedal car body with a dash or cowling designed to accept the steering shaft support must be attached to the pedal car chassis. Then the steering components can be installed. Last Step: After the body is permanently mounted, the wheels can be attached with the included locking cap washers.
Assembly of Pivot Rod Hanger Assembly to Pedal Car Frame.
#1. Assemble "Pedal Pivot Rod Hanger Assembly" to pedal car frame. A. Work from the top of the frame. B. Remove the 4 locknuts that came with the hanger assembly. C. Insert the 4 threaded rods of the Hanger Assembly thru the most forward holes in the frame so the threaded ends protrude thru the bottom of the frame. (See arrows in photo) D. Install the 1/4" locknuts that came with the hanger. NOTICE: Pedal push rods are still tie-wrapped to front axle. |
Tighten Hanger Assembly Attachment Lock-Nuts
Working from the bottom of the frame. Use an appropriate wrench (7/16") Carefully tighten the 1/4" locknuts. After tightening. Threaded rod ends should fully engage locknuts as seen in photo. |
Attach Pedal Push Rods to Pivot Rod Assembly
Remove tie-wraps that hold the Pedal Push-Rods to the front axle. TIP: To safely and easily cut the tie-wraps use wire cutters. |
Seperate the Cotter Pin, 3 washers, and Pivot Pin from one of the Hanger Pivot Rods. 1. Assemble 1 washer to Pivot Pin. 2. From the outside, slide Pivot Pin and washer thru Pedal Rod. 3. Add another washer to Pivot Pin. (sandwich Pedal Rod between washers) 4. Slide Pivot Pin with washers and Pedal Rod thru Hanger Rod. 5. Install last washer then install cotter pin. 6. Repeat assembly for opposite side. |
When assembled the hanger rod, pedal rod, pivot pin and washers should look like the photo on the left. (Bottom View) NOTICE: Washers seperating hanger rods and pedal rods with cotter pins installed on the inside. |
Completed Hanger Rod and Pedal Rod Assembly It is now time to build and attach a body to the frame. We suggest waiting until the body is assembled and installed on the chassis before permanently installing the wheels. |
